Healing for Veterans

Take a look at these heartwarming photos. These pictures capture the essence of our social recovery program, a heartfelt initiative for our veterans and their families as they reintegrate into civilian life after service.

It’s been an incredible journey for us here at Camp Maximum. We’re are the first in the Cherkasy region and one of three pioneering organisations across Ukraine to embark on such a meaningful project. The question you might ask is: How does it work?

Veterans and their families join us for a week of rejuvenation. We welcome veterans along with their spouses and children into our warm embrace. It’s a sanctuary where they can unwind, rejuvenate, and engage with our caring team of psychologists, social workers, and family counselling experts. Our chaplains are here too, offering spiritual comfort. And for the kids? We’ve got a bunch of fun-filled activities planned by our wonderful social educators and a team of dedicated mentors.

What we aim for is more than just a break from the everyday. We strive to knit families closer together, healing the emotional and physical distances that service life may have created.

To date, over 200 families from the Cherkasy, Poltava, and Dnipropetrovsk regions have participated in this national pilot project. The primary goal of this pilot phase is to replicate our successful model at a national level, allowing more families to benefit from these vital programs. This is crucial, considering that statistics show over 85% of veterans’ families experience divorce. We, therefore, proactively work with these families from the moment they step back into civilian life.

We’ve already seen the joy and transformation in 21 families through our two pilot programs in the fall of 2023. And guess what? We’re gearing up for five more by summer 2024 and more in the fall.

“We never expected that a joint project with the government could be so beneficial. Admittedly, we arrived with low expectations, assuming it would be another time-waster with mediocre services. Surprisingly, we experienced an unforgettable week that rejuvenated us physically, emotionally, and helped our family to rebuild the bonds lost due to separation. We wholeheartedly recommend Camp Maximum’s program to all veterans in our region and beyond. It’s an exceptional project!” – shared a participant of the program.”
