Bridging Communities: Disability Ministry Leaders Connect Across Ukraine and the U.S.

This June, Shepherd’s Foundation board member Katie Bonawitz helped bring together disability ministry leaders, advocates, and educators from Ukraine and the United States through a virtual conference hosted by Bethel University. The event, part of Bethel’s ongoing commitment to global service and inclusive ministry, welcomed over 70 participants and focused on equipping leaders in Ukraine to better support people with disabilities in their churches and communities.

Shepherd’s Foundation and Camp Maximum were highlighted during the conference as examples of effective ministry models that blend spiritual care with accessible, practical support. With the ongoing challenges in Ukraine, this collaboration served as a powerful opportunity to build relationships, share resources, and encourage local leaders striving to be a light in difficult times.
